"This is my secret tutee!"

Every night before Koby goes to sleep we sing him "I Love to See the Temple," and "I am a Child of God."  I chose those songs initially because they are the only two primary songs I know all the lyrics to.  However, now Koby only wants us to sing those  two songs when we goes to bed.  Well, it looks like kids listen and learn.  Here is Koby singing those songs:

'It's so pretty Mom"

I found Koby in our bedroom with a bra around his neck...

He looked up and said, "It's sooo pretty Mom!...  Koby wanna wear it."

I Believe I Can Fly...

The other day we decided that the weather was nice enought to finally go out to the park.  Koby was really excited and sang to himself the entire way there, "We're going to the park.  We're going to the park.  We're going to the park."  Inside I think I was singing too.  I love the spring/summertime.  Life is just so much better when it's warm and there is no snow on the ground.  Why do you think the birds sing during the summertime?  It's because winter sucks and it's too depressing to sing...

Anyway, Koby had a blast at the park.  We played on the slides, in the tunnels, and even played a little basketball.  Everytime Koby made a shot he would yell, "I did it!"  When I would miss, he would go get the ball, give it back to me and say, "Try again Dad."

After all that, Koby wanted to go on the swings, my personal favortie.  What's not to love about swings?  It's like controlled, restricted flying... so much fun.  Anyway, Koby likes it when I jump off the swings.  It cracks him up everytime.  I asked Megan to take a picture of me so we could show Koby.  She did so reluctantly.  When she showed me the picture she said, "Doesn't that make you feel cool?"  I responded "No.  I did it for Koby, he will like looking at it," but in reality it did make me feel a little cool.

My feelings of jumping off an elementary playground swing and flying through the air can only be described by the immortal words of recording artist Seal, "I believe I can fly.  I believe I can touch the sky.  I think about it every night and day, spread my wings and fly away..."

On a separate note, I got my motorcycle license a couple weeks ago, so I have been commuting to work on my bike.  It's been fun.  Driving a car is so boring now.  Plus it's nice that filling up only coasts $11.72 instead of $58.24.  I have wanted to take Megan out on a ride, but due to the whole pregnancy belly thing, I haven't been able to.  A little disappointing, but at least Koby has been able to take a girl for a ride on his bike.

That's my boy!

Socially Awkward

Do you ever watch FRIENDS? You know when a pretty girl says hi to Chandler and he just goes, "uuuuh, hehe" and ducks his head? This is how I feel whenever I go into public and someone tries to talk to me. My face gets all red and my brain shuts off. When did this happen?!!

The other day I was at Old Navy(buying maternity jeans-yay). The 16 year old guy at the register started talking to me...

Guy: "This week has seemed so long"
Me:"Oh yeah?"
Guy: "I just haven't had anything to do after work all week."
(He looks up at me for a response....Long pause...I start getting nervous... Oh no what do I say?)
Me:(Waaay too enthusiastically)"...Maybe you should read a book!"
Guy: "Hahaha.... Uh,ya..."

I just about died. My face turned red and I realized I had officially turned into a grandma. I came home and told James what I said. He cracked up and confirmed to me that yes, I was in fact socially awkward.

When I was a Personal Trainer I was good at making conversation. And if there was nothing to say you just count the reps..."1, 2... good job, 5 more." Being a stay at home mom with one 2 year old AND not having a car for the winter has taken it's toll on me. James is no help either. After Koby is asleep, and we can finally have real adult conversation, what ends up happening is I talk talk talk...James throws in a couple "ya"s and then falls asleep MID CONVERSATION(He claaaaaims he must have Narcolepsy). So, as you can imagine, I have learned to adapt to the following kinds of conversations...

(Number 1:)
Koby: “I want to go up high in the sky to the moon.”
Me: “What are you going to do on the moon?”
Koby: “Koby’s gonna jump over the moon. Let’s go do it mom.”

(Number 2:)
Koby: "I don't see the snow outside Mom."
Me: "It's gone now. The sun came out and melted all the snow."
Koby: "Mom, I need to buy some snow."
Me: "Where do you buy snow?"
Koby: "I buy snow at the grocery store."

(Number 3:)
Me: "Koby, where does Jesus live?"
Koby:"In Utah."
Me:"Does he live up in heaven?"
Koby: "Ya."
Me: "So where does Jesus live?"
Koby: "In Utah."

(Number 4:)
Koby: "The sun is all gone."
James: "Where did the sun go?"
Koby: "The sun is sleeping in the mountains."

(Number 5:)
Koby: "I see the sun Mommy."
Me: "Yeah. Is it up in the sky behind the clouds?”
Koby: "Ya. Come in the car sun! (grunting) I can’t reach it. Come in the car with me sun!"

(Number 6:)
Koby: “I want to go to the mountains Mom.”
Me: “You do? What do you want to do there?”
Koby: “I want to climb the mountains"
Me: “You want to climb the mountains huh?
Koby: “Ya… up to the top. I want to climb the mountains with mommy …and with daddy. Let’s go mom.”

Although cute, not good practice for the real world. Maybe I should read a book?

Just Koby being Koby...
*Koby trying to open a candy: “I can’t do it. (grunts) This is hard work!”

*Jumping on the trampolines this morning he was cracking me up. He kept saying, “We are having fun mom! We are having soooo much fun! ” over and over and over again.

Payback ...The Naked Truth

You know there is something funny that has been happening with James for the last few years and I think it's time to share it with our fellow bloggers. Normally, because of the lack of appropriateness and the embarrassment, I would not post it. However, since my sweet husband shared this wonderful post with the world (pregnancy hormones and tears oh my) I thought why not:)

It all started about 3 years ago. James and I were visiting my family in Washington. We were sleeping across the hall from my parents on an air mattress. In the middle of the night James wakes me up...

James(a little angry): "Megan Why'd you take my underwear?"

Megan(confused): "I don't know what you are talking about. Why would I have your underwear? "

(James turns on the light and is standing there in nothing but a T-shirt)

James: "Where's my underwear, Megan. This isn't funny!"

Megan: "James, I did not take your underwear! Why would I take your underwear? ...Lets look for it."

After a few minutes of searching...his underwear are at the end of the bed, underneath the mattress.

Over the last few years this same thing has happened multiple times. Same story, I wake up to "Megan, where's my underwear?!"

Last week James' alarm went off and he gets out of bed. I turn over to see a completely nude James.

Megan: "James, why are you naked?"

James: "I don't know."

Megan: "Did you get hot last night or something? Where are your clothes?"

James: "I don't even know...This is weird."

Now when it happens it isn't surprising, but the whole thing is just weird.

Earthquake in Japan

I came in to work this morning and a co-worker of mine informed me that an 8.9 earthquake had hit Japan a few hours earlier, the 5th biggest earthquake in the world in the past 100 years.  As many of you know, I have family and also many friends from my mission in Japan.  I was worried for their safety and well being.  However, the earthquake hit several hundred miles from where I served my mission, and over 1000 miles away from Okinawa, where my family lives.  I was relieved, but after watching the NHK new clips, my heart ached for those that were killed or affected by this tragedy.  This is one of the most terrible things I have seen in my life time, my prayers go out to anyone who has been affected by this.

My mom and sister, Lisa, were planning on flying to Japan this coming Tuesday to go visit family.  I am glad they weren't there for this.

Pregnancy, Hormones, and Tears... Oh my!

Megan might kill me for this post, but it's kind of funny, so I will take my chances.  If this is my final post and Megan does decide to murder me, I just want to the you know that I would like "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen to be played at my funeral.

So Megan has been a little on the emotional side recently.  Not the bad, "I hate you, stop breathing like that or I'll kill you," emotional, but more of a "oh my gosh, that is the sweetest thing in the world, it's going to make me cry," kind of emotional.  Her recent posts show a little of this emotion, "How to make a grown woman cry," and "Baby Charlie."

Yesterday we where making Koby a DVD of different youtube videos and Megan showed me one of Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas and the Sesame Street gang singing a song called "What I am."  She was smiling as she watched, and asked me, "Doesn't this just melt your heart?  I think I am going to cry..."  I said, "Sure, it's cute, but I don't think I'm going to cry about it."  Within seconds tears of joy/pregnancy hormones were flowing down Megan's cheeks.  It was pretty funny.

Here's the video, let me know if it makes you cry:

Baby Charlie

I know I know, I am post happy this week, but I just had to share this little miracle...

After a rough and scary entrance into the world
Charlie Quigley
He makes me melt. I guess I can survive pregnancy for another one of these.

How to make a grown woman cry

I know in the case of this 7 month pregnant lady it is not too hard, but check this out..

Tonight, while James was out, I heard some manly voices and then a loud knock at the door. I almost didn't answer because it creeped me out, but when I did I saw about 15 young men singing, "We wish you were still our teacher, we wish you were still our teacher..." They said they were thinking of people that were really influential to them and they chose us!

James and I have taught the youth at church for almost 2 years and every week we wonder, "Do you think they got anything out of that?" At the beginning of last year I thought they were crazy giving us 17 fifteen year olds. James and I almost died the first week, but by the end of the year we were so sad to see them go. I hugged them all (and maybe cried a little).

Seeing all those young men we taught tonight made me cry. They are the sweetest bunch of boys.

This year we have 16 thirteen year olds. So far it's been tough. Tonight gave me a little more hope though:)

Bedtime Moments

Koby is growing so fast and there are a few moments that I need to document.

Moment 1:
One night, before bed, Koby wanted his daddy to sing to him. James sang, "I love to see the temple" to him. Every night since we have to, "sing the temple song daddy/mommy!"
The other week at church Koby belted out every word...
"I love to see the temple.
I’m going there someday
To feel the Holy Spirit,
To listen and to pray.
For the temple is a house of God,
A place of love and beauty.
I’ll prepare myself while I am young;
This is my sacred duty."

It makes me smile when I hear a little 2 year old sing about preparing himself when he is young :)
He says, "I’ll prepare myself while I am young; This is my secret duty."

It's hard to shush your little guy in church when he is being so sweet.

Moment 2:
He opens the scriptures the other night, points to the words and says, "It says Jesus loves Koby!"

Moment 3:
The other night when we were reading Goodnight Moon something clicked for Koby. He looks at the full moon and then the crescent moon. He points to the picture of the crescent moon and says, "A bite out of the moon!"

Moment 4:
(A few weeks ago)  I was all dressed and ready to go somewhere and I went into Koby's room after his nap. He looked at me and says, "Mommy looks sooooo pretty!" It made me feel pretty :)

Moment 5:
When he is laying in bed at night, if you kiss his little head and walk away he sits straight up and says, "I want a kiss on the face Mommy/Daddy!"

* Don't worry, we are not "holier than thou" ...I just don't document the "Oh my Gosh!" or the angry little "No kissin' Koby, Mommy!!"  that he says.

Dreams do come true...

In the past few month I have talked about dreams a lot, and last week one of my dreams came true.  It was a glorious day.  Before I get into that, I would like to share my list of dreams or things I would like to do before I die.  Here they are:

1. Obtain as many degrees as I can and then become a janitor at BYU
2. Have dreads (I told Megan I don't care how old I am, I can be 70 and bald with a little bit of hair on the sides and I will still do this at some point in my life)
3. Beat Steve Sandberg at Trivial Pursuit
4. Do an Ironman
5. Buy a motorcycle

Well, thanks to increasing gas prices and an awesome wife, the winner is... dream # 5!  Thanks Megan, you are the coolest wife in the world.

So, here's to dreams coming true!  (I just hope I don't die, or worse...)
