Ode to Civic

My sweet Civic,
We first met over 12 years ago.
I was so young and so were you.
So many memories... good and bad.
Well actually not too many bad ones.

Memories of driving to play baseball with Dad,
Going camping where Kevin broke your trunk,
The dent in your hood from Casey hitting a foul ball.
And all the road trips... Vegas... LA... Tahoe... San Francisco.

I learned to drive with you,
Got my license with you,
Got my only ticket with you,
Went off to college with you.

I came home from Japan,
And you were there waiting for me.
Moved to the hood with me.
Then met a smokin' hot girl with me.

We took her on a road trip,
I knew she wouldn't be able to resist the two of us together.
Let her sleep on my shoulder
As we listened to the artists formerly known as
Tony Flow and the Miraculous Masters of Mayhem.

You were there for the ups and the downs,
In spite of a crappy summer we could always count on you
To take us to the beach.
The sand looked good on you.

I think Koby liked you too.
You had the AC,
But you started smelling funny.
It's ok, he never judges.

So, we went to California last week,
Even with 293,000 miles,
You got us there no problem.
We drove you till you were almost empty.
Who knew it would be the last 684 miles together.

Thursday morning,
"James, where is your car?"
You were gone,
It was like a dream.

2:37am, Friday,
"This is the EGPD..."
They found you.
So excited to be reunited...
When I saw you, you were...
Torn apart,
Naked.

My soul writhed in pain,
A tear weld up in the corner of my eye,
But we were strong.

Good by friend...
We will miss you.

* If you don't understand James' post. On Thursday, the morning we were going camping at Whiskey Town, our car was stolen outside of his parent's house in California. They found our car the next morning. It was torn apart so we just had to leave it at the towing company and WE had to pay the towing fee - ridiculous! They stole our ipods which were in the glove box and my brand new pack of gum from the cooler, but at least we got all our camping stuff and Koby's car seat back. Now we are out of a good reliable car, ipods, a pack of gum, and $200.00 for a towing fee.

So much to say... I'm sorry, mostly.
But also I love the poem, it's very moving.
And lastly, I'm devastated about the pack of gum. An IPod can be replaced, but a pack of gum, now that's a loss.

I still can't get over your car being stolen!! James, loved the post! Creative and fun. It was so good to see you guys at Whiskeytown. I'm glad you came anyway. Kobi is so cute!

That is so sad. I know how you feel though. We had a honda civic and they almost stole, but ruined the ignition and could get away with it. They are reliable cars. Tell your hubby that we are sorry that is poor sweet car is all torn apart!
