A Perfectly Psychedelic Harmony of Flavors

A few weeks ago I was watching the Colbert Report and Stephen mentioned that his Ben and Jerry's flavor, Americone Dream, was losing in sales to Jimmy Fallon's flavor, Late Night Snack.  He read the ingredients in Jimmy's ice cream, "Vanilla bean ice cream with a salty caramel swirl and fudge covered potato chip clusters."  When I first heard it I was disgusted.  As a Colbert fan I was determined to help Stephen when the competition with Jimmy Fallon and decided I would go out and buy some Americone Dream the next chance I had.  But every time I thought of Jimmy Fallon's Late Night Snack it sounded better to me.  The more a thought of it, the more I craved it.  Finally last night I was reminded of it again.  I couldn't get it out of my head.  I could no longer stand not know what this Late Night Snack tasted like.  At 9pm I got into the car and drove to the nearest Wal-Mart.  I found what I was looking for and headed home.  My mouth was honestly watering before I even got home.  How I made it home without cracking the carton open is still a mystery to me.

Finally I was home.  I sat on the couch with my carton of Late Night Snack and a spoon.  I finally had the object of my desire.  I opened.  I ate.

What then ensued can not be described adequately in words alone.  It was an explosion of flavor.  A perfectly psychedelic harmony of sweet and salty.  It blew my mind.  I still have a little bit left, and I can't wait to get home :)

I am sorry Stephen, you will still have my heart when it comes to late night comedy, but Jimmy wins the ice cream battle.

*Disclaimer: I absolutely love this new flavor, but if you don't like the combination of sweet and salty, you may not.  I know Megan didn't.  Try at your own risk.  You may be disgusted, but you also run the risk of having you head exploded because of over-exposure to pure awesomeness.

Today at lunch...

Koby and I had a long conversation. This kid is so fun to talk with and he is the smartest little barely 3 year old I know. I am so glad he talks like crazy. I wish I could blog it all-he surprises us with everything he knows all the time. I never want to forget what he was like at this age.

Koby: "Mom, are you a princess?"
Me: "What do you think, am I a princess?"
K: "No, you're just a mom."
M: "What is a princess?"
K: "Her just sings and dances and goes into the houses."
M: "Doesn't mommy sing and dance too?"
K: "Yeah"
M: "Am I a princess then?"
K: "No! Moms are not princesses!"
M: "Why not?"
K: "You don't have long hair and you just live in a house."  (His definition of long hair is Rapunzel length)
M: "Are you a princess?"
K: "No. I'm just Koby Kob. I'm just KBoy."
K: "I can be a doctor and go bowling. I can also be a daddy."
M: "Oh yeah? When you get big?"
K: "Yeah. I'm just medium  right now, but when I get big I can."
M: "What do Doctors do?"
K: "Doctors just fix babies, and kobys, and mommies, and daddies. "
When I'm a doctor I can fix Dad's arm, and Linc's arm, and Linc's head, and his tummy too."
M: "When you are a Doctor and a Daddy are you going to have lots of kids?"
K: "Yeah! I will have lots of friends. You are a mommy friend, Dad is a Daddy friend, and Linc is a Lincoln friend. I'm your friend too mom."
M: "You are my friend. What do friends do?"
K: "We just play... and we give kisses. Can I give you a kiss Mom?"

We also taught Linc to clap during lunch! He can alternate between waving and clapping when you tell him to. He is growing up so fast! He will be 9 months in just 5 days! Eight months was full of accomplishments for Lincoln. He learned to pull himself up to stand, to crawl, to walk with his walker, to climb up to the top of the stairs, to dance, to wave, and now to clap. I am pretty sure he has been observing us telling Koby no for months because if say, "Lincooooln...." he stops, looks at you, and redirects his route. He knows the tone. He has the sweetest little personality and it's coming out more and more.  This next year is going to be a fun one with these two!

Innocence

Koby said his own prayer tonight.  It was very sincere and thought out.  It made us smile.

“Heavenly Father
Thank you for the nice day
For being nice
For going to the soccer game
For having so much fun
For going to the bathroom
For getting lots and lots of gumballs
I love you
Name of Jesus Christ Amen.

He also ends the night with, "Hey Dad what do you love me more than? I love you more than chocolate chip cookies. Hey Mom what do you love me more than? I love you more than building blocks."

"I dus gotta do three things Mom. I gotta give you a hug, and a kiss, and a squeeze."

Why I Could Never Be Jack Bauer

Megan and I are huge fans of 24.  We have watched every season.  I can't count how many nights we stayed up way too late because we had to watch "just one more."  Anyone who has seen the show knows that Jack Bauer is an absolute stud.  I think it was because of Jack that I applied to the CIA and FBI, who I don't work for... or do I?

Anyway, throughout the series, there are numerous times where Jack is captured and tortured for some information or something.  Like the stud he is, he never gives in.  In fact, I believe it was the second season, he actually dies from being tortured.  He was resuscitated of course and then went and killed the people who tortured him.

Well, I always thought that I could handle a decent amount of pain too.  Maybe not to the point where it kills me, but I thought I had a decent tolerance for pain.  Yestderday my physical therapist proved me wrong.

Before this surgery, I had never had serious physical therapy.  So, this is what I imagined it was going to be like:

Boy was I wrong.  I think this picture is more accurate:

Yesterday when the my physical therapist was working my arm, I had to bite down on my finger several times.  I seriously thought I was going to start crying.  On the bright side, I am gaining some of my motion back, but it still sucks.  Hopefully it will all be worth it in the end.

New this week...

For weeks now Lincoln has been teasing us with rocking on his hands and knees, backwards crawling, scooting, etc. Wednesday he decided to take the plunge and crawl! I caught the moment on film. Since then, he has become a crawling machine and a much happier little guy -yay!

It's been quite exhausting being the muscles around the house these past few weeks. Our new table came and guess who put the whole thing together? Me. I wish James' shoulder would just heal already so he can hurry up and get his second surgery done; I miss having a strong handyman around. James did however sit on the chairs while I tightened them and he laid out all my screws for me... He does try to help out:)

Sometimes I turn on the camera to find a little treat from Koby...

A few months ago James found this picture on the camera and tried convincing me it was me. Ha! It took a lot to convince him that it was in fact Koby.

Infectious.

This little laugh...

Koby's new passion

Recently instead of the usual Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Little Einsteins, Curious George, or Octonauts, to mine and Megan's delight, Koby has been watching a lot of the BBC series Planet Earth.  If you haven't seen it, it is a pretty cool little series.  We have enjoyed episodes about animals in the jungle, desert, and ocean.  However Koby's absolute favorite episode is the cave episode.  He is somewhat interested in the glow worms, bats, and other creepy crawly things that live in caves, but the thing that really gets him going is the base jumping they do at the beginning of the episode.

Ever since watching this episode, Koby has been jumping off of everything.  He has even started down the stair backwards.  I am sure he is going to hurt himself, but it is sure entertaining to watch... and that's what kids are for right?  Entertainment?

THREE

Our little man turned 3 on Sunday! I can't believe we haven't really had a good night's sleep in 3 years! Koby brings so much to our family. It's an adventure being his parent and we are grateful to have him.

Since it is winter, and James refuses to ride his motorcycle in the freezing cold or with one arm;) he takes the car each day. Which means we are usually stuck at home-just me and the boys. I thought it'd be fun to have all Koby's friends over and throw him a little party this year.

Koby asks for popcorn everyday. So I thought why not do a drive-in movie. I saw the idea online and have been wanting to do it with my nephews. I spent way too long making some cardboard cars, but they turned out kinda cute and proved to be excellent for keeping the popcorn and candy mess off the carpet!

The kids sat, ate, and watched the movie for about 20-25 minutes...which is honestly longer than I expected. Then they played, and played, and played! Koby had a blast! He is a very social kid. He needs more play dates.

Young Love...Koby and Anna at the Drive-In
Sunday was Koby's actual birthday. Dave, Lisa, Em, and Shane came over to celebrate, along with our sweet friends Cole and Amy who came bearing cupcakes (which were a hit with Koby:).

Thanks to Aunt Lisa for a great picture!

Koby loved getting all the attention and hanging out with the adults. They really made his birthday special. We have been making cupcakes out of play doh and having nerf gun fights all week now...thanks to some great Aunts and Uncles!

Koby is so lucky to have such sweet friends nearby who love him.
